A wind mitigation inspection is used to determine if a home has the necessary structural components to help mitigate structural damage during a wind storm event, (i.e. hurricanes and tornadoes). This type of inspection is not “pass or fail.” Rather, it determines if a home has or does not have a specific structural component.
This inspection requires that we document and photograph all windows and doors to determine if they are protected with storm shutters or are impact rated, and to determine if they are installed in a wood-framed or concrete block structure. More importantly, home inspectors are required to determine the age and geometry of the roof, how the roof deck is attached, and how the trusses are connected to the walls.
